These 6x4 oak floating shelves are handmade from solid air-dried oak timber. Our 6x4 oak floating shelves are popular with customers who want to use them as a mantel, but like a mantel with a bit more shelf space to create a display.
These oak mantels are in our Outlet section, which is mantel shelves are from cancelled orders, where a customer has placed an order and then changed their mind about their finish colour, or even cancelled their order after we've already made them in the workshop.
This mantel is in perfect condition, it is not a “second” or damaged.
The only reason we’re selling them at a discount is that it is currently taking up space in our storage area of the workshop – storage that we need for other orders that we are busy making. You benefit from buying our handmade mantel that’s already made and ready to be dispatched, at a discounted price. And we get some much needed space back in our workshop!
In most cases, there will be limited choice of lengths and wax finishes, depending on what we've got already made, and ready to go in the workshop. These oak fireplace beams are handmade from solid air-dried oak timber. With 14 different lengths. There is a choice of three fine wax finish colours, as well as an unwaxed option. You choose the shelf to suit you. All fixings are provided with pre-installed keyholes in the back. And full fitting instructions for easy installation.
Our oak floating shelves can only be installed onto solid walls. All fixings are provided with pre-drilled holes in the back. And full fitting instructions for easy installation.
For oak shelving that can be put onto plasterboard walls and other non-solid walls, sop our bracketed shelf range to achieve a similar look, just paired with specially selected handmade metal brackets.
Complete the look with our fireplace accessories which includes fire buckets, tools and log baskets.

Solid Oak Timber
These shelves and mantels are handcrafted from the very best quality solid oak timber. The timber is air-dried and will therefore continue to dry out as it settles into its new environment. You can expect some movement to occur during this time.
Each shelf is cut to size and finished in our workshop. This leaves in lots of natural, rustic timber characteristics and features. Mother Nature's own stamp of approval.
In this timber, you can expect to find splits, cracks, knots, shakes, waney edges, bows, and twists along with sticker shadows and machine marks in keeping with the rustic style. These are the qualities that set our shelving apart from the rest. And due to the nature of solid wood, every shelf will be different. Truly unique. One of a kind. Rustic timber.
You can expect to see some movement within the oak as it settles into its new environment. Please note that placing your item above or near to a heat source can cause this movement to exaggerate the timbers natural features further, particularly splits, cracks and twists.

But that's not it. The main feature is the stunning wood grain running through the timber. And the growth rings are plain to see on the ends.
Fine Wax Finishes
To finish these chunky wood shelves, we use your choice of one of our supreme wax polishes.
Wax not only makes the timber look good, but it is also very durable. You can easily wipe away spillages. And cleaning is very simple. Just wipe with a clean cloth and warm water then leave to dry. But never use harsh chemical cleaners.
The finish is professionally applied with the highest attention to detail. And as the wax soaks into the different grains and features it enhances their look and brings them to life. The colours are:

We also have our unwaxed option, ideal if you have your own finish to apply:
- Natural Oak
When viewing on screen colours can look different from one screen to another. This makes it less reliable than seeing the real finished timber before your own eyes. Because you want the perfect colour for your home these finishes are available to purchase as small samples.
Future Maintenance With Wax Care Packs
We have wax care packs available to keep your shelves looking their best.
They're also brilliant for fixing damage. A small amount of wax will fix a scratch. Order your wax care pack here.
Strong Fixings & Easy Installation
When you receive your oak shelf, the packaging will also include fixings. We provide you with fixings that have been designed specifically for the installation of our wooden shelves and mantels. We would recommend fixing it to solid wall types only. With the help of a professional joiner, or a skilled DIY enthusiast they can be fitted to timber frame walls as well. As this item is made from air-dried oak, it is not suitable for insetting into, or sealing onto the wall, doing so may cause the timber to move in an unnatural way. We are not able to guarantee the shelf if you do not use the fixings we supply, if they are installed using alternative fitting methods, or if they are installed into alternative wall types.

Turnaround & Delivery
These shelves are already made and are ready to be packed and dispatched. They will then be dispatched within a couple of days you placing your order. They will then be dispatched and will usually be delivered within 1-2 working days providing that there are no courier delays. It is important to open your delivery as soon as it is received so that this can be checked over, and so that the wood can breathe.
Please note: orders with multiple items will be dispatched according to the longest lead time. To receive your quicker lead time items without having to wait, just place separate orders.
