Do you offer a guarantee on your furniture?

The finest timbers and quality craftsmanship go into every piece of furniture we make. Which is why we're proud to be able to offer a 25 Year Guarantee on all our handmade furniture. You can find out more about it here.

Does the wax transfer onto fabrics?

Many of our shelves, mantels and items of furniture have a wax finish.

When we make our furniture and shelves the wax finish is applied by hand, and very carefully buffed away from the wood. It's then left to dry before the item is packaged and made ready for dispatch.

However, given that we are working with a natural material, there is a chance that applied force and friction could cause the wax to transfer onto other materials.  

If you do encounter any issues as a result of wax transfer, please contact our customer services team who will do their best to offer advice on a solution.

How accurate are the dimensions stated on the website?

We are confident that our measurements are accurate but we do work to a tolerance of +/- 5mm.

Do you have any discounts available?

Due to the handcrafted nature of our furniture and shelves we don't have clearance sales or big discounts. But from time to time we do have offers and seasonal deals. You can find out more about our special offers and discounts here.

Can you colour match my existing furniture/flooring?

Whilst we don’t offer a colour matching service you can order some samples to find the best match for your decor.

Do you make bespoke or custom furniture?

Unfortunately we can no longer offer any type of bespoke service. We have an extensive collection of furniture and shelves, we hope you can find something suitable.

Are your shelves and mantels waterproof?

No. the waxes we use do not make them waterproof, and you should take care to use coasters and mats to avoid marks and stains. Any spills should be wiped up immediately. Do you charge VAT for sales to Jersey & Guernsey

Customers in the Channel Islands do not get charged VAT, if you order via our website. Prices on our website are inclusive of VAT. So, add your products to your bag, head to checkout and start inputting your delivery details. Once the website realises it is a Channel Island address it'll revise the purchase price, removing the VAT automatically.

Delivery, Lead Times & Returns

What is the lead time?

As all our solid wood furniture and wooden shelves are made to order we do need time for the workshop to make the pieces for you. Each piece has a different lead time, which can change. Lead times for each item are listed on the product pages on the website under “Turnaround & Delivery”. We'd strongly advise against using the lead times as guidance for booking in tradesmen or renovations to your property. As there are sometimes delays in manufacture, and / or delivery.

Where do you deliver to?

All of our furniture, shelves and accessories are delivered across the UK. Do contact customer services for more information on international deliveries.

My delivery has arrived, is the packaging recyclable?

Our packaging is recyclable. Cardboard, bubble wrap and plastic wrapping are widely recycled, either as part of your household waste collections, or at local recycling centres. If your local council doesn't recycle bubble wrap and plastic wrapping it can be recycled at local collection points such as supermarkets. My furniture was delivered on a pallet, what do I do with the pallet now?

Our larger furniture items are delivered on a pallet. You can find out more this type of delivery here.

The delivery company will not take the pallet away. If you wish to dispose of it, there are a couple of options available to you. 

You could take it to your local Household Recycling Centre, and you can find your nearest one, here. (link: 

Alternatively, there are companies which will collect your pallet free of charge, and you can request a collection on their websites.

I've missed my delivery, what can I do?

If you have missed a delivery you can use your tracking number on the courier’s website to re-arrange this.

My tracking number isn't working, what can I do?

If your tracking number is not recognised, please check back the following working day for updates. Once we get to your email we will investigate this too and get back to you if there are any issues.

I have experienced an issue during delivery, what do I do?

If there has been a problem with delivery, please provide as much detail as possible along with photographs if applicable and we will investigate and get back to you.

I've received my item but I ordered the wrong thing, what do I do?

If you have ordered the wrong item you can return the order to us within 30 days of delivery. Please consult our returns policy for details.

Can I return my order?

You can return your order to us in its original packaging, and original condition within 30 days of the item being delivered. Returns will not be accepted if the item has been installed or used. Please read our Returns page for information on our Returns Policy and how to go about return your item(s) to us.

Is there a way to fast track an order?

We do not offer the option to fast track your order. We schedule our workshop based on order date, product type, and work planning for our team.

We will always work to your item's lead time, and there's no way to pay to have your order prioritised over someone else's.

Orders with multiple items will be made and dispatched according to the longest lead time. To receive your quicker lead time items without having to wait, just place separate orders.

We'd strongly advise against using the lead times as guidance for booking in tradesmen or renovations to your property. As there are sometimes delays in manufacture, and / or delivery.

Do you deliver internationally?

We deliver to addresses across the UK including the Isle of Man, and Channel Islands. At present we do not deliver internationally.

All Shelving and Mantels

Will the timber have features such as knots or cracks?

Yes. Timber is a natural product and each piece is different, but it will contain natural characteristics. We use air-dried oak and kiln-dried pine. It is very likely that your shelf or mantel will contact surface cracks, splits, knots, shakes, waney edges, bows and twists, along with sticker shadows and machine marks in keeping with the rustic style. Once installed in your lovely warm and cosy home the timbers will continue to move and change and more cracks will appear. This is completely normal and expected as it comes into perfect balance with its new conditions.  

I don't want cracks, is that possible?

We use air-dried oak and kiln-dried pine. It is typical for these beams to crack and move slightly. Of course, each piece of wood is completely unique. You may receive a shelf or mantel with no cracks, but as it settles into your home it is completely natural, and expected, for it to continue to move and change, and cracks may well appear.

Can I use the shelves or a mantel in my bathroom?

They are not waterproof. So we do recommend they are not used in bathrooms unless they are not near 'wet' areas such as the bath or shower and the room is well ventilated.

How deep are your shelves?

We offer a range of shelves suitable for whether you're looking for shallow shelving or deeper shelves for storage. Our shelves range from 6 inches deep, right up to 12 inches deep.

Can I ask for a shelf or mantel with specific features?

Each piece of wood is unique and different.

Each shelf or mantel is cut to size and finished in our workshop, with lots of natural, rustic timber characteristics and features.

We cannot guarantee a specific piece of wood, with more or less rustic features, for your order.

Floating Shelves & Mantels

How do these shelves fit to the wall?

The floating shelves come with the concealed floating shelf brackets and pre-drilled holes in the back of the shelf, and the mantels are fitted with our keyhole brackets. Instructions for installation will be included, check out our video guides for further help with installing your floating shelves and mantel shelves.

What walls can these shelves be fitted on?

We advise that our wooden floating shelves can only be fitted onto solid walls. If you are looking for shelves that can be fitted onto any wall do look at our Bracket Shelves range, the same beautiful handmade wooden shelves, but with a range of metal brackets instead of concealed fixings.

How much weight can the shelves and mantels hold?

Providing they are installed into a solid wall using the fixings we supply with the shelves and mantels, they can hold up to 35kg. 

What are the finishes and how are they applied?

In our oak range you have 3 different choices of finish - Natural Oak, English Oak and Smoke Oak. Natural Oak is an unwaxed option. The finishes for the pine range are Walnut, Teak, Smoke Pine, Rustic Pine and Medium Oak. The wax is applied by one of our skilled finishing technicians after the timber has been machined to the correct style. These colours, other than the Natural Oak, are the names of our wax finish options, which are expertly applied by our own finishing technicians. The Natural Oak finish is the shelf made to the point of waxing and then left unwaxed for you to treat with your own stain or wax.  

I would like a different size to what you have listed, is this possible?

Due to the way our workshop now operates and the volume of shelves and furniture that are handmade everyday we no longer offer bespoke sizes.

If you would prefer a different depth or height please have a look at our other shelves and mantels.

Can these shelves or mantels be fitted above a heat source such as a log burning stove?

Many of our past customers have purchased our mantels or shelves to hang above their log burner or fireplace, however we do recommend checking with the log burner or fireplace manufacturer’s guidelines before purchasing to find a recommended distance for fitting above. Please also be aware that fitting the timber directly above a heat source can cause the cracks to exaggerate and open up larger as well as possibly causing the timber to twist or bow. Nearby heat sources can exaggerate movement in the timber as the heat can dry the timber out faster, resulting in unwanted splitting, warping or bowing. We would advise introducing oak beams to heat gradually to allow the timber to dry at a slower rate. 

Can these shelves or mantels be fitted in a bathroom?

Many of our past customers have purchased our mantels or shelves to install in bathrooms. The timber is not treated to be around water, so we recommend to ensure that the room is kept well ventilated and any excess water is wiped away from the surface in good time.

What Does FSC Certified Mean?

Funky Chunky Furniture Ltd has been independently certified
to the FSC® Standards (FSC-C177532).

This means that all our shelves, mantels and furniture are
certified as being made from wood that’s been managed in FSC forests, and forests that follow the FSC standards.

FSC-certified wood comes from well-managed forests and/or
verified sources. These forests are managed in such a way that they fight deforestation and protect the habitats of the wildlife, including endangered
species, that call them home.

Globally recognised as the highest standard of responsible
forestry, FSC certification is a real achievement and demonstrates a commitment to sustainability.

When you buy FSC-certified products you are shopping
consciously. So, look out for the FSC logo on other brands you shop with too. And, if you can’t see one, ask!

What FSC Certifications Do You Hold?

We were independently audited by the Soil Association, who came to our workshop and certified that the timbers we use and our processes meet the FSC standards.

They awarded us the FSC 100% and FSC Mix certification level, which means all our timber and wood products use wood from FSC forests and forests that follow FSC standards.


Do you have a showroom?

No we do not have a showroom. We are really confident that you’ll be able to see the standard of our workmanship and the quality of our furniture and shelves online.
